Happy Birthday President Obama.....

July 30, 2012

As my birthday nears and I get older I tend to get a little reflective. So, I decided to share what I have learned during this journey.
1. Honor your parents and take care of them.

2. Protect your children and remember there is no true manual to parenting. It comes straight from the heart.

3. Learn to pray for yourself. My Mother and Grandmother were praying women. Now, I am too.

4. Keep your friends close and be loyal.

5. Keep learning....keep improving.

6. Stand by your word.

7. True love has no color. Choose it for yourself. Don't let society tell you who should be with.

8. Don't be a needy woman. Be a woman than a man needs.

9. Strength is needed. But, gentleness is priceless from a woman.

10. And last....know that your were born an original. Don't die a copy.

It's easy to make pronises....it's hard to execute them. And, even harder to keep executing them. Promise what you can do. Do what you can sustain.

74 was Sherman Hemsley number. He was called home today. Officials say he past away at his home. I don't know for sure but, I think for Florence that is the last of the core group of grown ups. I think Lionel and the girlfriend are still living. As a matter of fact there were two Lionels and two Jennys weren't there?

Love this bracelet....FAITH!!!

If you are from my generation where you remember black & white tv....this show was a staple. When you heard that whistling and accompanying jingle, you sat still for 30 minutes and took in Mayberry, NC. I don't know if there is such a place. Or if it's just a southern state of mind. But, what it was....was wholesome....and funny. And, Andy Griffith was the cornerstone of the show and it's success. Others came and went...Barney left and came back...deputies changed. But, Sheriff Taylor was there. And, now that he is gone....it is time to thank him. And, it's time to pay tribute. He had two runs at it. Andy Griffith Show and Matlock. He was an entertainer and he entertained my parents, me, and my kids. RIP Mr. Griffith.

What a powerful picture....characters who we knew and could identify with.....

Don't let negative and toxic people rent space in your head. Raised the rent and kick them out!!

Give God your mess and let it become your message....

I am interested in a wide range of things in life. And, I thought I would post my thoughts on some of those things on my blog. I embarked on a lot of changes of late and all of them are good and positive. I want to channel my inspiration to others. Hopefully "Inspire."

What a powerful and sweet prayer....

Our Father, we come before you today to praise your holy name. We thank you for another day and are grateful for life. We are centered with Your Divine Mind and know that we are perfect, whole and complete. All our affairs are divinely guided by right action with perfect results. Everything we do, say or think today and everyday is in harmony with the righteous truth. There is divine, perfect, and continuous right action in our lives and affairs. It is safe for us to change. We release all thoughts of confusion, chaos, dis-harmony, disrespect or distrust. We know that you are not the author of confusion and you did not give us the spirit of fear. We eliminate these thoughts from our consciousness completely since they are not praiseworthy and of good report. We are harmoniously linked with each other as we continue to grow in learning one another. We express divine thoughts, feelings and ideas that are easily welcomed and comprehended by each other. All is truly well with our souls. As we leave a past of separation from one another because we were elsewhere and as we begin a today of learning where our place will be with each other we pray you Father continue to let us learn our place together.
Amen.

The Marching 100

I grew up on FAMU. My Mother attended Bethune Cookman.otherwise known as BCC. So, FAMU was the black college in state rival for BCC. The Classic was the game to attend in my community. It was tradition!

And, when UF had it's homecoming parade and FAMU Marching 100 came to town it was all we thought about. It was the reason for the big turnout.

They were an icon all of my life until now. I am so sad to see the image tarnished. The Band Director let go. But, the death of any young student warrants all of that. I don't know how they let the hazing and initiation process get so out of hand but, obviously it was out of hand.

It's a sad era for FAMU. I pray for their sake they are able to move on. That they are able to re-direct this ship. Obviously, there is no way to bring the young man back but, please Marching 100 don't let his death be in vane.

Great book to get for women....

I just love this picture of my fellow women....

I did know this tour by some of the best Gospel Artist of our time is going on. Wow!!!

Winnie Mandella....heard this was controversial. I can't wait to discover for myself. But, to have Jennifer Hudson and Terrance Howard in it says a lot. Both of these actors can pick and choose what thye want to do now.

Steve Harvey.....is he controversial. He says he is a Christian. But, most in the church don't seem to like his way of communicating nor his stand up. I must say even though I am suspect of the his previous relationship and all the junk that proceeded it...I love him. I especially pay attention to his show in the mornings. And, for him to turn his best selling book into a box office hit in the movies...you got to give this guy credit.

I never knew these ladies names before this movie. But, I got them down now. I have always admired their work. And, loved Viola Davis in Law & Order whenever she appears. And, Octavia has been all over the screen whether it's TV or movies. I am proud of these two ladies. All of the supporting roles they had to endure before this astronomical success.

I think women are as ambitious as men. Maybe more some times. But, so many times women have other responsibilites. They are the caretakers. And, whether in a single parent home or with both parents...more often than not women are the ones picking up the little ones. Women are the ones called when they are sick at school. I experience this first hand. And, believe be work...my bosses didn't care about my kids and their needs. They wanted at work putting in more than 40 hours like the single career women. You were impressive if you stayed longer and were not in a rush to get out the door to beat the 6 o'clock hour at the daycare. I will never forget that pressure of trying to do it all. To be the consumate professional and be super Mom.

Why is it that black women don't get married? Are we not interested in marriage? Do we settle for just living with a guy because that's all he wants to do at the time? Is there truth to, "The Angry Black Woman Syndrome?" I don't know. But, I find this statistic alarming and surprising.

Now, this is what my Church looks like on Sunday mornings. Wonderful depiction....

Still two of my favorite ladies. Pioneers for decades to come. My generation of strong women. I heard and read a lot of primodonda things about Oprah...but, I suppose it's that tenacity and passion that has driven her to this point.

Halle accepting her Oscar!! Does anyone know how old she is? She absolutely looks great.

Powerful!!!
